Dr. Kate Zeigler
Dr. Kate Zeigler is owner and senior geologist at Zeigler Geologic Consulting. Born in Montana and raised in Texas, she came to New Mexico in 1999 to continue her studies of geology. She earned her Bachelors from Rice University in Geology and Anthropology and obtained her M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico in 2002 and 2008 respectively. Her master’s thesis focused on a large fossil bonebed near Ghost Ranch, New Mexico and her doctoral research included developing one of the first complete magnetic polarity chronologies for Triassic age rocks in New Mexico. Once finished with school, Kate went on to become a consulting geologist and found her calling in using her skillset to provide information about groundwater resources to agricultural producers and rural communities. She serves on the executive boards of the New Mexico Water Dialogue, El Llano Estacado RC&D Council, the New Mexico Chapter of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), and the New Mexico Geological Society Foundation. In October of 2012, Kate was named the New Mexico Geological Society's Honorary Member and in September 2015, she earned her Professional Geologist Certification from AIPG.
Ethan Williams
Ethan Williams is a part-time staff geologist who has been with ZGC since 2018, working through a 12-month internship while completing his B.S. in Earth & Planetary Science at the University of New Mexico. He has been a critical part of the groundwater resource monitoring work and multiple paleontological survey and excavation projects. In addition he assisted in project management with work in the San Luis Valley. He is currently engaged in earning his Masters from New Mexico Tech University while continuing to assist with managing the ZGC groundwater monitoring network.
Brookly Armijo
Brook Armijo is a part-time staff geologist who joined the team in 2018. She has significant research as part of her undergraduate work at the University of New Mexico in taxonomic analyses of bonebeds in Nebraska with a focus on understanding the Eocene-Oligocene boundary. She has assisted with groundwater monitoring as well as geologic mapping in northeastern New Mexico. She is currently earning her Masters from Kansas State University.
Christopher Tickner
Chris Tickner is a staff geologist at ZGC and has been working for ZGC since November 2020. He completed his B.S. in Earth & Planetary Sciences from the University of New Mexico in May 2019. His coursework included advanced courses in sedimentology and stratigraphy, as well as a three-week geologic field mapping course. During his time with ZGC, Christopher has been involved in our well monitoring program, geologic mapping work in northeastern New Mexico, and assisting with paleontological survey, monitoring, and excavation at various job sites.
DeAndre Prince
DeAndre Prince is a GIS technician for ZGC who recently finished his B.S. in Geology with a minor in Geography from Oklahoma State University in 2021. His coursework included invertebrate paleontology and GIS. During his undergraduate studies, he interned with Dr. Anne Weil and had the opportunity to conduct his own research with data gathered from the Homestead Quarry in Oklahoma. In working with Dr. Weil, DeAndre was quarry master during the summer 2020 excavation season and he assisted in directing excavation activities at the site, enforced the site rules, and educated visitors about the morphology of the bones he was researching. While managing many of ZGC’s GIS-related data sets and assisting with paleontology resource management projects, DeAndre is also continuing his research with a grant provided by the Geological Society of America, studying the mineral content for samples from Homestead Quarry using energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS).
Our Subcontractors
We are delighted to partner with Western Geoinformatics (https://www.westerngeoinformatics.com/) for GIS support, including production of graphics and geologic maps as both digital and paper products. For geologic mapping and paleo resource management, we are proud to team up with Muddy Spring Geology, based in Dixon, NM.
Our Student Interns
We consider ourselves quite fortunate to be able to provide hands-on internship work for students from University of Oklahoma, University of New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands University. Our student interns have had opportunities to participate in groundwater studies, geologic mapping, paleontological excavations, and paleontology resource survey. We also have partnered with University of North Carolina-Charlotte to develop a robust stable isotope data set for parts of northeastern New Mexico and southeastern Colorado with their graduate student program.
